32CO

RESEARCH IDEATION UX/UI DESIGN

32Co is a clear aligner company that pairs AI-assisted treatment planning with orthodontist oversight, giving dentists an end-to-end platform - from case submission through 3D treatment planning to aligner manufacturing - as a direct alternative to Invisalign and other clear aligner systems.

32Control is 32Co's first tool that lets dentists edit their own treatment plans directly, adjusting the final tooth positions of an orthodontist-designed plan themselves, within safe clinical guardrails, instead of requesting a change and waiting on a designer to turn it around.

GOAL

Give dentists a safe, self-serve way to fine-tune the final aesthetic position of teeth in their treatment plan, closing a recurring "no 3D controls" objection that was costing 32Co deals against Invisalign, without compromising the clinical predictability that orthodontists build into every plan.

IMPACT

~45% faster case turnaround for modifications made through 32Control (18.6h vs. 33.6h for the standard request-and-wait flow).

ROLE

As the end-to-end designer on 32Control, I owned the tool from clinical research through to shipped UI, working closely with product, dentists and the specialist design team.

I analysed real specialist usage data across 245 tooth-movement modifications to translate how orthodontists actually move teeth into concrete, tooth-specific movement caps: the guardrails that make dentist self-editing clinically safe.

I led the visual design direction and language for the tool; the design and copy were deliberately tuned to who was actually using the tool at each point in the journey.

I ran the pilot's research and feedback loop directly with dentists, weighing their objections against real usage data, and turned that into a prioritised design backlog.

INTENT

For dentists, the priority was confidence, not capability. Most were editing a plan for the first time, so the UI leaned on visible guardrails (movement caps that flex by tooth type, not one blanket limit) and the copy kept reinforcing that an orthodontist still reviewed every change, so dentists felt free to tweak without fear of getting it clinically wrong. Onboarding and email copy shifted by segment too: newer, lower-volume dentists got a gentler, more instructional tone that walked them through the course and their first case, while established, high-volume dentists got a faster, more direct tone that assumed familiarity and got them straight to the tool.

That split, reassuring and educational for dentists, precise and procedural for specialists, ran through the whole system, from onboarding emails down to how a single tooltip was worded.

DEVELOPMENT

Worked closely with the development team throughout build and pilot, translating bug reports and usability feedback - captured via usability interviews and the tool itself - into clear fixes.

Conducted ongoing visual and functional QA across releases to keep the 3D simulation accurate and the experience consistent for dentists.
